1875 P Trade Dollar Type 1 Obv, Type 1 Rev, PCGS XF Details, Extremely rare

Description

One of the absolute keys to a complete Trade Dollar business strike set, the 1875 P Type 1 Obverse, Type 1 Reverse is rarely offered. There are plenty of impaired proofs of this variety that try to pass as a business strike, but there are some “no doubt” diagnostics that set the two apart, and this coin has them (a curved die scratch on the left IGWT motto ribbon end and a couple of die chips on Liberty’s leg drapery near the hay bale). The coin has solid XF details and original surfaces. It also has a scratch across the eagle’s wing and chest on the reverse, hence PCGS Details grade.
There is currently one other XF Details example on a major dealer’s website which is IMO not as nice as this one – it is cleaned, dull, and listed for 95.
