Description
Extremely nice, sharp and clean with great shine and luster! You will be very pleased with this coin. This is a beautiful, shiny 1875 Trade Dollar minted at the historic San Francisco Mint. This coin is certified by PCGS as About Uncirculated and is made of 90% silver and 10% copper. This coin has amazing shine and luster, and looks absolutely beautiful when held up to the light, far better than what the pictures can show.Trade Dollars were first minted in 1873 and were intended for use overseas, especially in the Orient. They contain slightly more silver than the standard U.S. silver dollar. This additional silver content allowed Trade Dollars to compete well with other foreign coins that were being used for commerce in the Orient. Trade Dollars were also used as legal currency in the U.S. until 1876 when Congress revoked their status. Trade Dollars are unique because of their larger size and are highly sought-after by collectors.
This beautiful old coin is labeled as "tooled" by PCGS because on the front, just below the elbow, there is some scraping, probably done by a machine. This tooling is minor and does not distract from the magnificent shine and luster of the coin The front and back of this coin have sharp, crisp details.
