    Description

    Offering a Heinrich E. Heberlein Jr. Stradivarius copy viola, with original label proclaiming this, plus "Markneukirchen 1921 Germany".
    OVERALL CONDITION, very good: the viola has just been newly & thoroughly examined by an experienced luthier and found to be without structural issue of any kind.
    Recently tuned and successfully test-played by a well-known local violinist.
    COSMETIC ISSUES;
    This instrument was formerly the property of the Pittsburgh School District. As a result, the back's upper bout has the indented labeling seen in the image gallery. It was achieved by use of some sort of ball-tipped (possibly electric) tool which only lightly dented the finish and wood surface without tearing the fibers: witness no loss of varnish at the site.
    Below that labeling, at the waist, the finish shows some initials, lightly, crudely, scratched into the finish, but again, not attacking the wood fibers.
    Beyond the above-mentioned issues: there are a scattering of minor blemishes, typical of a 100 year-old instrument which was for a time in regular use. This includes normal loss of finish on areas where hand contact is heavy, and a few small nicks or dents at edges plus spots of lost varnish.
    MEASUREMENTS:
    Overall length, 26 1/4".
    Width, Upper Bout, 7 3/8".
    Width, Lower Bout, 9 1/8".
    Soundbox Length, 15 3/4"
    Weight As Shown, 1lb,6.8oz (648 grams).
    ALSO INCLUDED:
    1.The hard case seen in the images. It is weathered on the exterior but still very solid and fully functional; it is exceptionally clean and plush inside.
    2. A good bow, of undetermined value. Usable as is, but ideally in need of new hair. It has a Glasser frog.
    SPECIAL NOTE: Seller has documentation attesting to the release of this instrument from the province and ownership of the Pittsburgh School District, available upon request to a new owner.
    Please study the image gallery and review the condition statement and main text to best appreciate.
