CRISS CROSS (1949) RARE Film Noir Pressbook, Burt Lancaster & Yvonne DeCarlo
CRISS CROSS was late in a string of the great Robert Siodmak’s classic noir movies, including PHANTOM LADY, CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY, THE KILLERS, and CRY OF THE CITY.  CRISS CROSS ranks among the best and is one of the earliest “heist” films, setting the pattern for movies like THE ASPHALT JUNGLE, THE KILLING, RIFIFI, OCEAN’S 11, THIEF, HEAT, and so many more.
Burt Lancaster, who had already appeared in noir classics such as THE KILLERS, BRUTE FORCE, I WALK ALONE, and SORRY, WRONG NUMBER, stars as Steve Thompson who returns to his old L.A. haunts and re-connects with his ex-wife Anna (DeCarlo). Unfortunately, she’s hooked up with shady character Slim Dundee (the always sleazy Dan Duryea). An armored car heist involving the company Steve works for leads to disaster for everyone. Shot on location in Los Angeles, including the Bunker Hill neighborhood, this doom-laden classic features great performances by Burt and Yvonne, superior direction by Siodmak, and even a bit role for the very young Tony Curtis. For my money it’s every bit as good as THE KILLERS.
This pressbook measures 12 x 18 and consists of 8 pages. It is uncut and complete. There is a center crossfold and otherwise just the normal wear for a pressbook that is nearly 75 years old. This one rarely appears, so don’t let it pass you by. Be sure to see my other noir pressbooks.
