    Description

Elvis Aaron Presley [1935 1977] was a singer and actor who is regarded as one of the most significant cultural icons of the 20th century and is often referred to as the ''King of Rock and Roll''. Listed for auction is a stunning display which contains the autographs of Elvis Aaron Presley and President Richard Milhouse Nixon. President Richard Nixon [1913 1994] was the 37th President of the United States who served from 1969 until his resignation in 1973. The display depicts the unplanned and spontaneous meeting held in the oval office of the White House on December 21, 1970. The display is centered around a colorized photograph of the iconic image of Elvis Presley and President Nixon taken in the oval office. Mounted below is the autograph of Elvis Presley signed ''lov ya Elvis Presley'' in blue pen on a page. The page measures approximately 3.25 x 2.00 inches and is in fine condition. The autograph has been authenticated by JSA Authentication Services and will be accompanied with the above Letter of Authenticity. The autograph of President Nixon is signed ''Richard Nixon'' in blue pen on a [TLS] typed letter signed on his personal letterhead [Richard Nixon] and dated April 5, 1985. The letter is complete and is mounted behind the matte with just the autograph displayed. Mounted to the right of the photograph is a professionally engraved plaque which contains the complete content of five page hand written letter Elvis wrote on American Airlines stationery and delivered to the White House. Mounted below is an additional engraved plaque which reads as follows ''The White House - President Richard M. Nixon & Elvis Aaron Presley. On December 19, 1970, Elvis Presley left his home at Graceland and boarded an American Airlines flight to Washington, D.C. with the intent of acquiring a Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs Badge. As fate would have it, U.S. Senator George Murphy was also on his flight and suggested to Presley to write to President Nixon offering his services to help combat illicit drugs use. This now famous five-page letter written on American Airlines stationery was hand delivered by Presley to the security gate of The White House on December 21, at 6:30am. At 11:45am Elvis Presley walked into the Oval Office wearing a purple velvet suit with cape, sunglasses, along with gifts for the President. The conversation was at first awkward but quickly turned to family, Elvis's military service, the Beatles and the current drug crisis. The meeting concluded at 1:05pm, the King and the President shook hands and Elvis departed Washington, D.C. with his badge. Mounted to the left of the bottom plaque is a Seal Of The President of The United States Challenge coin and to the right is a copy of a US. Drug Enforcement Administration Special Agent badge. The display has been triple matted with all acid-free materials with great attention to detail as follows. The challenge coin and the badge have been shadowboxed within the frame and completed in a outer black swede matte and accented with a gold and a blue inner matte. The display has been completed is a ornate black/gold quality wood frame to the dimensions of 24.00 x 22.00 inches and it is stunning.
