Grounding rings are optional for all meters, except for a 3100 with a Teflon liner, where rings are a must.
Liner materials other than Teflon include both measurement electrodes and grounding electrodes. Rings should be used when installing a meter near a VFD or in between plastic pipe.
Be sure the metal from the grounding ring is connected to metal on the meter tube with a wire of a material suitable for the area (not provided by Siemens). See photos on page 7. A hole at 12 o’clock on each flange is drilled and tapped to accept a 6 x 16mm bolt, bolt not included. The makes for a positive ground connection to the mag body.
