Description
This is an ultra rare Bradley Minnie Mouse bobbing head or nodding head watch. At most 350 were made. Who knows how many or rather how few survived? A description of this watch in the attached photo of book page. (Obviously you're not bidding on the book, which is Comic Character Timepieces: Seven Decades of Memories by Hy Brown and Nancy Thomas.)The watch is New Old Stock It is not running but it has not been serviced in 40 years. It dates from 1978. However if you flick the balance wheel the head does bob. Presumably a good cleaning professional cleaning will get it going but I have no way of knowing.
The watch only 26.5mm, a girls/woman’s size. Watch shines. The back is base metal which discolored with very little wear, this one shines like new- watch obviously never worn. Original rubber red strap, buckle says Hong Kong. The movement and the case are SWISS made. Back Then even inexpensive watches had Swiss made cases. Today 2K Swiss watches put in made in China cases.
The movement is a BFG 844 a common pinlever in ladies watches of the time.
I'll be including three other BFG 844 movements!!!!
One on Mickey Mouse dial in case. The one with ruined Holly Hobbie dial is running, (so far) though none serviced in 40 years.
So if any parts need to be replaced you'll have an ample Supply. However the movement in the bobbing head Minnie Mouse has had to be somehow modified. The crown is on the four rather than the three and it has the pivot on top of the watch for the bobbing head attachment. Nevertheless I assume that the vast majority of parts are interchangeable between this movement and the ordinary BFG 844.
Photos 6 and 7 show the three extra movements which you will be getting! Photos 10,11, and 12 show the movement inside this very rare watch.
This is a great, and legitimately ultra rare, collectible. Under 350 made, and the ones worn wouldn’t have survived. My late father was watchmaker between 1960 and death in 1996.
I know for a fact he hated animated watches like this. Complication and inexpensive is not a good combination and the failure rate on these high. However the fact the head bobbed when balance manual “flicked” a good sign.
Have listed on eBay some of the movements my father left.
